Remdesivir not sufficient to prevent Covid 19 deaths, says WHO

New Delhi. American pharmaceutical company Gilead’s drug Remdesivir was believed to be effective to some extent in treatment of Coronavirus infection. Now the World Health Organization has declared this drug to be a failure to prevent deaths from Covid 19.

The WHO gave this information after the results of clinical trial. Recently, when American President Donald Trump became Corona infected, he was also given same medicine.

Earlier in this year during May, it was declared that anti viral drug Remdesivir is proving effective on covid 19 patients. With initial investigation shown that this drug could cure patients infected with corona virus quickly.

But the statement of WHO has caused a big shock to the patients, who are being treated for corona virus from Remdesivir. WHO did trail on 11,266 adults of 30 countries. It included four possible drugs including Remdesivir, Hydroxychloroquine, Anti HIV drug combination Lopinavir/Ritonavir and Interferon.

The effects of all these medicines were evaluated. The WHO study on Thursday found that it didn’t affect 28 day mortality or recovery of hospitalized patients of Covid 19. The details of the clinical trial are yet to be reviewed in detail.
